The present Pope is Benedict XVI, Joseph Ratzinger, originally from Germany. He was elected
in April 2005.
The Pope holds public audiences on
Wednesday mornings. Tickets can be obtained from the Prefettura
office on the north side of St Peter's Square. An easier way to see
the Pope, however, is simply to turn up at the Square on a Sunday.
Every Sunday at noon he appears at his study window to bless the
crowds below.
